I love stories, whether they are told in books, movies,
series, radio shows, anime, etc. and I find it quite difficult to choose my
favorite among all of them but of all of them I would like to write about a
series of books that I have loved since childhood.
Tales of the Otori is a series of historical fantasy novels
by Gillian Rubinstein (under the pseudonym Lian Hearn), set in a fictional
world based on feudal Japan and through five books tells the story of the Otori
lineage.
The first book, Across
the Nightingale Floor, is about a 16-year-old boy named Tomasu, member of
The Hidden, a peaceful town that one day is invaded and massacred by Iida Sadamu (leader of the Tohan) and his men. In his escape
through the mountains he meets Shigeru, who decides to take the child as his
protege, changing his name to Takeo and from that moment will be trained
to take revenge while discovering the secrets of his blood.
The book also tells the story of Kaede, a 15-year-old girl
who lives in the castle of Iida as her servant and prisoner, who really is the heiress
of the Shirakawa clan. She will be used in the plans of the lord of the Tohan,
until she meets Naomi (leader of the Maruyama clan) who will teach her how,
despite being a woman, she can obtain the power and respect of a warlord.
I chose this saga because it was the first non-traditional fantasy that I read and I love how it relates the stories of the generations among them to create a world that evolves in each book.
You are freaker than i thought
